Ductility
Ductility states that the ability of the material to go changes in physical form without even breaking. Most metals like iron are quite ductile that is why it can be molded into different forms.
Most ionic bond are quite brittle like the sodium chloride or known as table salt. It will break easily when you hammered it.
Hardness is the ability of the material to maintain its physicality. The harder the material the harder will it to break and to deformed it shape by hammering.
