1. There are three basic soil types: sand, silt, and clay. Sand is comprised of tiny rock fragments and is the roughest in texture. Clay becomes sticky or greasy when wet, and very hard when dry. Silt is between sand and clay in texture.

2.The color in soil is mainly due to two factors – organic content and the chemical nature of iron compounds found in the soil. Iron gives soil a brown, yellow or red color. Organic matter is usually black or dark brown. It acts as a sponge to help absorb surface water.
