For me Living life as it matters, and it doesn't matter, then it doesn't matter would mean that life is lived only for the good of that person so her/his life matters only to him/her but for others his/her life doesn't matter for them. But “If we live as if it doesn’t matter, and it matters, then it matters.” this could mean that living your life as if it doesn't matter to you because you also live it for the good of others then your life matters a lot.
