is held at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Renoir exhibited at the first and second Impressionist exhibitions of 1874 and 1876, before showing the Ball at the third in 1877.

Renoir refused to participate in the fourth Impressionist exhibition in 1878. He started to look to Classical sources for inspiration in the 1880s.
