Statistics and probability are used subconsciously by us all the time! I will give a small example. Suppose you're leaving your house in the morning. Do you take the umbrella or not? There is a probability that it might rain- that you estimate- by considering the rainfall statistics of the same time previous years. You have a meeting at ten at your office- how soon do you leave? You decide that based on your experience with the traffic- in other words- the average time needed to go from your home to your office- and you leave some extra time ahead to account for the probability that you might be late
