I think genetically altering plants is definitely morally good, but when it comes to animals and humans, the question becomes a murky swamp. For example, if I modify a human zygote to be immune to cancer but do nothing else, I have certainly done something good for that human future, and very few people would reject such a gift, BUT I still have fundamental changes in most people basic self without your consent. MY signature is now on every cell in YOUR body; I cannot think of a more invasive violation of personal physical integrity (even with a benign and beneficial alteration such as immunity to cancer).
