Learning Task 2: Read, analyze and solve the given problem below on a sheet of paper.
In a classroom there are five 20-watt fluorescent lamps and four 50-watt electric fans operating for 10
hours in a regular school day.
1. How many kilowatt-hours are consumed by the five 20-watt fluorescent lamps each school day?
2. How many kilowatt-hours are consumed by the four 50-watt electric fans each school day?
3. How many kilowatt-hours are consumed for a day?
4. How many kilowatt-hours are consumed for 3 days?
5. How many kilowatt-hours are consumed in one school week?

Sagot :

By using the formula E = P x t.

Where

E = Energy, kWh

P = Power, watt or kilowatt

t = time, hr

For no. 1

E = P x t

E = 5(20w) x 10hrs

E = 1000 watt-hr

E = 1000 watt-hr x 1 kWh per 1000 watt-hr

E = 1 kWh

For no. 2

E = P x t

E = 4(50w) x 10hrs

E = 2000 watt-hr

E = 2000 watt-hr x 1 kWh per 1000 watt-hr

E = 2 kWh

For no. 3

E = P x t

E = [5(20) + 4(50w)] x 10hrs

E = 3000 watt-hr

E = 3000 watt-hr x 1 kWh per 1000 watt-hr

E = 3 kWh

For no. 4

E = P x t

E = [5(20) + 4(50w)] x 10hrs

E = 3000 watt-hr

E = 3000 watt-hr x 1 kWh per 1000 watt-hr

E = 3 kWh

E = 3 kWh x 3

E = 9 kWh

For no. 5

E = P x t

E = [5(20) + 4(50w)] x 10hrs

E = 3000 watt-hr

E = 3000 watt-hr x 1 kWh per 1000 watt-hr

E = 3 kWh

E = 3 kWh x 5 (Since there are only 5 days of school in a week)

E = 15 kWh
