Who are the senators opposed to the death penalty?
As of July 2019, there are nine senators who voted against the death penalty. They are:

There are several reasons as to why these senators have voted NO to the death penalty.
Reasons for Opposing the Death Penalty
1.The current justice system is failing due to corruption within the ranks, archaic laws, a bureaucratic process which slows down the process of getting justice.
2.Capital punishment and death is not an effective deterrent against crime because for a great number of criminals, the reward of committing crime is greater than the risk.
3.Poverty and lack of a proper health and education system are the main drivers of criminal activity.
4.The death penalty is universally viewed as archaic, cruel, and inhumane.
5.Morality and personal beliefs of some of the senators weighed in their decision of voting against it.
