Instruments are classified using 5 different categories depending on the manner in which the instrument creates the sound: Idiophones, Membranophones, Chordophones, Aerophones, & Electrophones.VAlthough his system was limited to the serious instruments of Western music, he used the four groups of strings, winds, drums and other percussion.
